Mural unveiling in Bassetlaw

Tuxford School (part of Transform Schools Bassetlaw) has unveiled a four-part mural in the dining hall, thanks to the members of the after-school art club.

The pupils worked with professional artist, Matt Cameron, to create four large panels depicting Dreams, Peace, Pressure and Becoming Me. These panels incorporated a number of paint techniques and abstract concepts, and provided the pupils with new skills to take forward into their school art classes. The mural was unveiled at the school’s Creative Arts Festival on 4th July.

Art teacher Tori Richardson said, “Our aim was to build students’ confidence in their abilities and assure them that their artistic skills are highly valued within the school. The Art Department wanted to reward these students  with a unique opportunity of working on a large scale with a contemporary artist.”

The project was funded by Balfour Beatty Capital, as part of the ongoing community engagement programme within Transform Schools (Bassetlaw). Following completion of the mural project, the school has recently commissioned the artist for two more sessions to work with A-Level art pupils.
