Partnership working in Islington

Balfour Beatty Capital has funded a range of outdoor fitness equipment for Whittington Park users. The artwork and fitness equipment were unveiled at a ceremony in the park on Monday 14 July.

Highbury Grove students have been working in their Saturday art classes to produce colourful city scapes, which have been infiltrated with images of cats produced by pupils from Samuel Rhodes School. These collaborative images have been used on three signs which will be located at various entrances to the park. A decorative mosaic on the same theme has been created and installed at the entrance to the trim trail.

The project was devised by Transform Islington as part of their community engagement programme, and to help to forge links between Highbury Grove School and Samuel Rhodes school for children with special educational needs. The two schools will share a campus at Highbury Grove when construction work is complete in January 2010.
